HOW TO BE VEGAN in a “cruel” WORLD

WHAT IF…

… We could all gain consciousness and become a KIND & VEGAN world?

Why not?

What mind viruses are keeping us from achieving something intelligent that would solve a great many of our problems?  What do we need to start doing in our personal and more public lives, that could actually impact all our environments and the real wellness of our world?

For me, it has been a very kind evolution to this point, where I no longer eat anything derived of animals, once I knew the truth about how animals are actually mistreated, even in milk and egg production. Let alone the very harmful CO 2 generation of raising cattle… Have you any idea of this impact?

Last year, I was not even thinking about becoming vegan- and still eating some sardines and eggs for their nutritional qualities- when I ran into THE KIND DIET by Alicia Silverstone, which really opened up my mind, body and HEART to a new KIND of eating, drinking and, most of all, thinking and seeing the world. Because this is really nothing short of a TRANSFORMATION that I have had… Since July 2011…  And keep having, to the point of REALLY CARING about… Well, everything that really matters!

I am ever more conscious about where food is grown, produced and how natural and good it really is- or IS NOT- as well as how animals are treated… I have to confess: it breaks my heart every day, just thinking about this system in which animals and people are in jail, because that is easier than finding healthy HUMANE solutions for them… What are we doing?

And, sure, I like progress, I like cities and everything that man has created… But the EXPENSE is HUGE and I really hope that we become more and more conscious as a whole and holistic planet; so that we can actually DO something about it, with education that begins with taking care of ourselves, in body, mind, emotions and SPIRIT… Think about it: at least 90 % of all illnesses can be prevented by correct programming and thinking patterns… PROFOUND.

I work for companies that are ever more green and sustainable, which I respect and admire, and sometimes I really have to make a focus shift to what I need to get done as a way of servicing others… So that, like these big companies that are making a difference, I, too, may build networks of Holistic Fitness & Wellness & Sustainable W-Health ; )   I like that: it makes me HAPPY to be the change I want to see in the world- as Gandhi teaches-, and to know that no matter where we are, we can build a better FUTURE for us and our next generations… That if we actually STOP the destruction, will survive and hopefully THRIVE in an ideal but POSSIBLE world in which we use our human INTELLIGENCE to PRODUCE- of course, we need to produce- in a way that is actually SUSTAINABLE… Say, we eliminate vegetation only if we can actually grow it back and preserve the NATURAL FLOW and, using my Biology career, find ways to keep nature and/or BUILD new nature as compensation for our ecosystems… Or if we start using clean sources of energy, for which we already have the technology… Why not?

I know it is really complicated, but not only in our personal lives do we need to SIMPLIFY…

And speaking of personal lives, what can WE DO in our personal life, that can have a MULTIPLIER EFFECT in our world?

Well, for one, let´s all GO VEGAN, one step at a time, as Alicia Silverstone so brilliantly shows you how in her awesome book (not getting paid for the promotion

; )   Just believe that everyone should at least read the book and start “flirting” with veganism… Perhaps one meatless dinner at a time…

Here are my first tips on how to BE VEGAN in this very cruel- or nasty as Alicia calls the killing and abusing animals- world:

1. EXPLORE all delicious and practical protein sources, such as great varieties of beans. That in itself is quite a great experiment, since you can try different preparations that are always exciting and never ever boring.

2. Go NUTS with nuts and seeds that you can carry in your gym bag, car, purse, briefcase… Just anywhere, as an excellent strategy for having great nutrient packed (best fats, protein, fiber and phytonutrients) snacks that keep you always satisfied.

3. Love your SMOOTHIES, in which you can include more carrots and parsley- my favorites- than you would ever eat on a plate. For this, I highly recommend the Vitamix, where you keep every food whole+holistic, never sieving nor taking out the best sources of soluble and insoluble fiber…

7+1 = 8 TIPS para darle MÁS VIDA A TUS AÑOS

“VIVE TU VIDA, OLVIDA TU EDAD.”

1. CREE QUE LO MEJOR ESTÁ POR VENIR: Una vez que crees esto con constancia, más cosas buenas llegan a tu vida. En lugar de quedarte en lo que no está o lo que no tienes todavía, enfócate en lo que sí quieres y espera lo mejor.  Realmente es maravilloso ¡y funciona!

2. SÉ ACTIV@, NO IMPORTA QUÉ, DÓNDE NI QUIÉN: La mayoría inventa excusas cuando se trata de no hacer ejercicio, por algo que les pasó, porque están viajando o debido a alguien que interrumpió sus planes. Siempre puedes usar las escaleras, bailar y simplemente mover tu cuerpo, baby!

3. SÉ PROACTIV@ y CONCIENTE: Así estés en un restaurant o sitio en el extranjero, pregunta qué ingredientes tiene lo que te estás comiendo o tomando. No importa lo delicioso, quieres que tu comida y bebidas te hagan sentir bien: no mal ni somnoliento, ya sea por exceso de grasa, calorías o toxinas. Así que debes estar conciente. Coloca en tu cuerpo las comidas y bebidas correctas. En tu mente, sólo admite pensamientos buenos, positivos y de calidad. Si sientes emociones negativas como la rabia, duda o miedo, reemplázalas con la risa (aprendí esto de Wayne Dyer), gratitud, entusiasmo y amor… Y cuando se trata de tu espíritu, conéctate con la fuente de energía que te renueva periódicamente, sea Dios, Buddha o la Energía Universal (aprendí esto de Lair Ribeiro, Jim Loehr y Tony Schwartz).

4. AYUDA A ALGUIEN, ESPECIALMENTE CUANDO TE SIENTAS  MAL O BAJO DE ENERGÍA: Ha sido un despertar de humildad para mí darme cuenta que, aunque siga siendo exigente conmigo misma para alcanzar mis metas imparables… Hay gente que no tiene ni agua para tomar… O sólo necesitan un mensaje o tip para subirles el ánimo, incluso para seguir adelante más allá de su dolor o lucha. Ayudar a alguien- así no te lo agradezcan- siempre se te devuelve en creces del Universo.

5. DATE CUENTA QUE NO HAY FUTURO EN EL PASADO Y VIVE MÁS ALLÁ DE ESTO: No importa lo que pasó, tenemos control sobre nuestra percepción y, por lo tanto la “historia” de nuestra vida. Eso, por sí solo- lo aprendí de Jonathan Budd en Unstoppable Entrepreneur- es suficiente para seguir adelante con tu vida EMPODERADA.

6. USA LO QUE TIENES: Hasta la gente con discapacidades serias está haciendo ejercicio a lo máximo de sus capacidades, ganando carreras, maratones, cumpliendo retos y, principalmente, usando lo que tienen en coraje, entusiasmo y fé en sí mismos.

7. SIEMPRE PÁRATE A OLER LAS ROSAS y SÉ AGRADECID@: Porque eso, en sí mismo, produce más FELICIDAD que lo que obtendrás de cualquier promoción, premio o logro. Dar GRACIAS es la oración y afirmación más poderosa, porque obtienes MÁS de lo que APRECIAS.

8. HAZ UN CHEQUEO DE ACTITUD- Y DE POSTURA- CADA VEZ QUE REVISES TU BLACKBERRY, TWITTER, FACEBOOK O BANDEJA DE ENTRADA: De acuerdo con las estadísticas presentadas por Robin Sharma, somos interrumpidos por la tecnología cada 11 (once) minutos. Se trata de hacer conciencia seriamente, y definitivamente haría una eliminación aquí, o todo el “DEAL” (técnica de La Semana de 4 Horas de Trabajo por Timothy Ferriss). Pero cada vez que chequees tu tecnología- yo te recomendaria no más frecuentemente que cada 90 minutos- tómate unos 2 minutos para chequear también tu ACTITUD: cómo estás respondiendo a lo que está sucediendo y a lo que estás haciendo, y ¿cómo te hace sentir? Haz que tu actitud sea siempre POSITIVA, usando las emociones poderosas del ENTUSIASMO, CORAJE, DETERMINACIÓN, FÉ, AMOR y ALEGRÍA!  Nota: Lo de la postura es fundamental- cuerpo = mente-, así que te regalo este VIDEO y espero tus comentarios y que compartas con tus amigos!

7+1 = 8 TIPS to ADD LIFE to YOUR YEARS!

“LIVE YOUR LIFE, FORGET YOUR AGE.”

1. BELIEVE THE BEST IS YET TO COME: Once you believe this consistently, more good comes to your life. Instead of dwelling on what is not there or what you don´t have yet, focus on what you do want and hope for the best. It is amazing, really, and it works!

2. BE ACTIVE, NO MATTER WHAT, WHERE NOR WHOM: Most people make up excuses when it comes to not exercising because of something that happened to them, because they traveling or due to someone that interrupted their plans. You can use the stairs, dance and just move your body, baby!

3. BE PROACTIVE & AWARE: Even if you are in a foreign restaurant or joint, you can always ask for the ingredients in what you are eating. No matter how delicious, you want the food to make you feel good: not lousy nor drowsy, either from too  much fat, calories or toxins. So be aware. Put in your body the right foods and drinks. Put in your mind only good, positive, quality thoughts. Feel and let go as quickly as possible of anger, doubt, fear… Replacing them with laughter (learned this from Wayne Dyer), gratitude, enthusiasm and love… And when it comes to your spirit, connect to the highest energy source that renews you periodically, whether it´s God, Buddha or the Universal Energy (learned this from Jim Loehr, Tony Schwartz and Lair Ribeiro).

4. REACH OUT & HELP SOMEONE, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE FEELING DOWN YOURSELF: It has been a humbling awakening for me to realize, that even if I keep on being demanding with myself to reach my unstoppable goals… There are people who don´t even have water to drink… Or just need an uplifting energy message or tip from you, to get going past their pain or struggle. Being helpful to someone else- even if they are not grateful to you- always comes back to you from the Universe.

5. REALIZE THAT THERE IS NO FUTURE IN THE PAST & LIVE WAY BEYOND IT: No matter what happened, we have control over our perception and, therefore, story or our life. That, in itself- I learned it from Jonathan Budd @ Unstoppable Entrepreneur- is enough to move forward with your new EMPOWERED life.

6. USE WHAT YOU´VE GOT: Even people with serious disabilities are exercising at the most of their abilities, winning races, marathons, and, most of all, using what they´ve got in the way of courage, enthusiasm and faith in themselves.

7. ALWAYS STOP TO SMELL THE ROSES & BE GRATEFUL: Because, that, in itself, produces more JOY than you will ever get from any promotion, prize or achievement. Saying THANKS is by far the most powerful prayer and affirmation at the same time, because you get MORE of what you APPRECIATE.

8. DO AN ATTITUDE CHECK EVERY TIME YOU CHECK YOUR BLACKBERRY, TWITTER, FACEBOOK OR INBOX: According to statistics presented by Robin Sharma, we are interrupted by technology every 11 (eleven) minutes. This is serious awareness, and I would definitely eliminate or the whole DEAL (from the 4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss). But every time you check technology- I would recommend no more often than every 90 minutes- take a couple of minutes to check your attitude: how are you responding to what is going on around you and what you are doing, and how does it make you feel? Turn your attitude always positive by using the powerful emotions of ENTHUSIASM, COURAGE, DETERMINATION, FAITH, LOVE and JOY!

Cómo tener un ABDOMEN ESPECTACULAR = La Receta

LA RECETA. Parte I.

Como te expliqué en el post anterior, se requiere una combinación inteligente

de cardio+”dieta”+ejercicios específicos que trabajan los abdominales.

Toma nota:

1. Los ejercicios abdominales no queman suficientes calorías como para

representar una pérdida en grasa en la zona abdominal.

2.  Los ejercicios de las rutinas a continuación no rebajan la grasa: de hecho,

no es posible el “spot reduction” o reducción de grasa por zonas.

3.  Lo que sí hacen estos ejercicios es FORTALECER y darle resistencia muscular y tono a los músculos

que les expliqué en el artículo anterior de “Cómo tener un ABDOMEN ESPECTACULAR”.

8 BASIC TIPS when you WORK OUT

1. NEVER- EVER!- skip your warm-up!

2. WORK at your own pace.

3. If you feel any discomfort- other than the exercise demand-

it´s better that you stop. Pain is NOT necessary for exercise

to be EFFECTIVE.


4. Ask the TRAINER to help you, for a better technique in whatever you are doing: even on the treadmill!

5. Drink water & always be HYDRATED: before, during & after your exercise workout.

6. As a PRE-WORKOUT SNACK, you could have some low-fat yogurt with cereal, a fruit

or a tuna or nut butter sandwich, approximately 2 hours before working out.

A banana works GREAT right before training! ; )


7. NEVER GIVE UP! It´s better to move, get into action & exercise, rather than being lazy

on the couch or lying down on your bed!

8. VARY your workout plans as much as you can, incorporating different techniques &

exercise types. Cross-training is the best- and my PERSONAL FAVORITE- way to train,

now & FOREVER!

Los 7+1 hábitos para ser MÁS EFECTIVOS

Los 7+1 HÁBITOS de Stephen Covey, aplicados al Fitness & Wellness

Si eres de los afortunados que leyó y trata de aplicar “Los 7 Hábitos de la Gente Altamente Efectiva”, entonces te felicito. La filosofía del autor de “Primero lo Primero”, “El 8° Hábito”, entre otros espectaculres libros, Stephen Covey, es una de las más sencillas; y lo mejor de todo, es que nos ayuda a gerenciar mejor , tanto en el trabajo como en nuestra vida personal. De hecho, nos podemos guiar por un gráfico que clasifica la victoria privada de base, para luego obtener la victoria pública. Y el último hábito, “AFILE LA SIERRA”, realmente resume la idea de que si queremos ser EFECTIVOS en la VIDA, entonces “la gallina que produce los huevos de oro” no se puede matar; tampoco estar enferma, fatigada ni demasiado “estresada”. La gallina se refiere a cada uno de nosotros, que debe estar en buenas condiciones mentales, espirituales y físicas. En otras palabras, ESTAR EN FORMA es NECESARIO para RENDIR y TENER ÉXITO.

Hoy te presento una comparación “light”- EJERCICIO, NUTRICIÓN, ACTITUD POSITIVA- de los primeros 3 hábitos, con el fin de motivarte a que no dejes tu salud para después. Es un COMPROMISO contigo mism@.

1)      SÉ PROACTIVO: Se trata de verte  a ti mism@ como el programador, no como el programa que otros hacen. La aplicación direta de este principio es que no somos víctimas de lo que nos sucede ni de las circunstancias del país.

Es tomar el significado de “crisis” como OPORTUNIDAD y no como peligro, de manera que no hay excusas a la hora de tener una buena SALUD. El “no tengo tiempo”, “no puedo por mi trabajo” o “tengo que cuidar de mi bebé/espos@/madre” pueden limitar unpoco la cantidad de tiempo que se le dedica al ejercicio, pero sencillamente NO PUEDES DARTE EL LUJO de estar en el TOTAL ABADONO por situaciones difíciles. En todo caso, si es una emergencia que amerita prácticamente todo tu tiempo, entonces deja el mínimo tiempo posible sin entrenar- es una cuestión de PRIORIDAD- o busca “huequitos” de tiempo para respirar profundo, hacer abdominales o caminar rápidamente de un lado a otro.  Creo que a veces somos muy radicales: el “todo o nada” puede transformarse perfectamente en “tengo sólo 10 minutos para mí, “¡déjame aprovecharlos!”

2)      EMPIEZA CON UN FIN EN MENTE: Es el hábito de la visión, del propósito, de la misión; es decir, de los principios y directrices por los que quieres guiar tu vida.

Pregúntate a ti mism@, honestamente, “qué es lo que quiero lograr?”. Si vas al gimnasio, al parque, a la montaña, e incluso en tu casa, con este objetivo en consideración, entonces puedes dirigir tu entrenamiento de manera acorde. Si no, te sucederá como a la mayoría que se esfuerza, pero no de manera consciente; y luego no cumplen sus metas, se desmotivan y lo dejan.

Por ejemplo, si vas a subir al Avila en Caracas, debes saber qué persigues con este esfuerzo, desde tener más resistencia hasta sentirte bien. Y si vas al gimnasio y lo que quieres es tener un cuerpo más tonificado o más duro, no te pases toda la hora montando bicicleta. Pide ayuda al entrenador- o el tuyo personal, preferiblemente-, para conocer los efectos de los diferentes tipos de entrenamiento y así sabras que además de lo cardiovascular, debes trabajar con pesas, máquinas, ligas y/o tu propio peso como resistencia.

Dice Stephen Covey que la prueba o el momento difícil del hábito 2 llega cuando uno está cansado y se “deja llevar por la corriente”.

3)      PRIMERO LO PRIMERO: Es el hábito de la integridad, de la disciplina, de mantener el compromiso. Es el hábito que se basa en la voluntad independiente de realizar literalmente lo que hemos decidido en el hábito 2- que es lo primero.

El ejemplo que cita Covey es justamente relacionado con la dieta. Cuando él llega extenuado al hotel, después del viaje, después de haber hablado tanto en las conferencias, le provoca pedir “cualquier cosa” para comer. Pero luego se da cuenta que es darle el gusto a unos pocos millones de papilas gustativas, mientras que billones de células en el resto  del cuerpo gritan que  “no”.  “Cuando no supero este momento difícil, tengo que soportar las consecuencias de no dormir profundamente, de ganar un peso innecesario o de no tener la misma energía al día siguiente. Sería como rendirse al placer del momento, en lugar de subordinarlo a la alegría de la contribución y el crecimiento”.

7 TIPS+ACQUAFITNESS: Be FIT & HEALTHY @ the beach

1. YOUR ATTITUDE determines how high you think, live & thrive in life, so remember it´s not the circumstances nor your limitations, but HOW you RESPOND to them…

2. YOUR WORKOUT is not about impressing other people, but about respecting & loving yourself so much, that you will do it for YOU, no matter what. In return, you will be FIT, HEALTHY and you might even become irresistibly attractive- and USEFUL/VALUABLE-, to yourself & others! ; )

3. YOUR PRACTICAL NUTRITION is how you can add the most VALUE in all your meals, so that you will have an OPTIMUM NUTRITION with the right calorie count for your metabolism & physical activity.

4. BEACH WORKOUT A: Do YOGA moves on the sand, especially at sunrise & sunset. It is an amazing experience. Ask an instructor to show you the basics, and practice, practice, until you master them… Or perhaps you are already taking Yoga: so keep your practice up at the beach!

5. BEACH WORKOUT B: Walk in the sea! Yes, like acquafitness, go chest-level deep & just walk with all that great no impact resistance… And as you progress, you can jog it, jump it & add great exercises to your water-beach routine! (see video below)

6. FRUITS in your ICE BOX: I know that most people think of beer, but what we really need more of, besides WATER, are delicious, fresh, nutritious and hydrating fruits to eat frequently at the beach. You already know why: fiber, vitamins, antioxidants & flavor! At least include mandarins & bananas, plus a big watermelon to share with the family or group!

7. OTHER SNACKS THAT YOU NEED TO HAVE: When you travel to the beach, mountain or even when you just leave your house, you always have to have nutritious snacks at hand. The best ones that I recommend are GRANOLA BARS, NUTS, SEEDS, PEANUTS and YOGURT. That way you get your proteins, carbohydrates and healthy fats in a completely practical PORTABLE NUTRITION.

And

Learn some basic Acqua Fitness moves that I love to do in a pool or the sea.
A few tips:
- Have the water @chest level.
- Try these kicks as well as the jogging & jumping moves, for your legs, hips & glutes.
-Enjoy one of the most fun, effective & safe workouts in the planet.

If you are anything like me, with lots of goals for a wonderful life, that gets you closer to your dreams and a “perfect” balance, you probably want to do an EFFECTIVE AND EFFICIENT WORKOUT.

Here I show you a WORKOUT with DUMBBELLS that works, strengthens, tones and SCULPTS your WHOLE BODY, in very few minutes. Of course, it depends on how extreme your objectives are; but you can even do 1(ONE) set of 8-17 repetitions of each exercise, 2-3 times a week and you will ACHIEVE RESULTS!!

This post is from the heart of a girl who doesn´t have the “perfect life” as society would consider it; but who is NOW & HOPEFULLY FOREVER INDEBTED TO YOU and TO GOD, for letting me share ALL I DO HAVE, which is actually pretty darn PERFECT!

I am not going to brag about having this or that; au contraire! BUT I am OVERFLOWING with JOY & what I consider TRUE ABUNDANCE (soon to be manifested in the material world): LOVE, compassion & GREAT HEALTH!

A lot of people are curious about my age; in fact, only others remind me of my chronological age, since I TRULY FORGET MY AGE! I guess I follow Norman Vincent Peale´s famous quote: “Live your Life & Forget your Age!” And, you know what? – don´t hurry, don´t worry, I´ll tell you how “old” I am (LOL)- IT WORKS TO LIVE MY LIFE without limits! Best thing of all, it works for me to BE HAPPY, considering ALL I have done.. And all I have the opportunities to do from NOW ON!

I am TRULY LUCKY, for many reasons… I cannot believe that I used to have the INSANELY RIDICULOUS FALSE belief that I was unlucky: are you kidding me?…

For starters, I am FREE to do what I LOVE every single day of my life! Now, that is LUCKY! Of course, it takes a strong mindset, amidst the circumstances and collective thoughts and limitations… We can talk about that some other time: Today, it is all about APPRECIATION & GIVING something SPECIAL TO YOU on my birthday, September 16th… OK, I´m 47 ; )  Pretty cool, don´t you think?

Which brings me to the second fundamental reason that I am SOO LUCKY: I am EXTREMELY enthusiastic, energetic & THANKFULLY SOO HEALTHY ; )

Reason #3 is that both of my BEAUTIFUL PARENTS are ALIVE & WELL… and… Do I need to go on? I don´t think so!

Just having WATER to drink every day, NUTRITIOUS FOOD & people TO LOVE already means being BLESSED! Yes, I am BLESSED, and I hope you are, too!

Wow… Éste es muy importante para mi, y quizás te estás sintiendo de la misma forma…

LA VIDA es tan buena YA y de por sí, pero como tengo tantas cosas sobre las cuales quiero mejorar; cuando estoy cansada o un poco baja de ánimo, tiendo a ver las cosas desde un punto de vista negativo. ..

Luego llamé a mi hermana, y al hablar con ella, me di cuenta de que NO TENGO NADA DE QUÉ QUEJARME. Ya tengo lo que es importante en mi vida, aunque esté luchando y, de alguna manera esforzándome por cumplir otras metas… Mmm, wow,  fue un poco humillante, para decir lo menos, PERO era una NUEVA PERSPECTIVA que no tenía en el momento. Gracias, Sofía, Y ahora te doy las GRACIAS A TI por leer esto…

Aquí comparto contigo algunas de mis afirmaciones favoritas de GRATITUD, que podrían funcionar para ti también:

Let´s be MORE GRATEFUL… ALL THE TIME.

Wow… that is a biggie for me, and maybe you are feeling the same way…

LIFE is so good already, but since I have so many things I want to improve on, when I am tired or a little low, I tend to look at things from a negative point of view…

Then I called my sister, and by talking to her, I realized I had NOTHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT. I already have what is important in my life, even if I am struggling and somehow actively pursuing other goals… Wow, that was a bit humbling, to say the least, BUT it was a NEW PERSPECTIVE I didn´t have at that moment. Thank you, Sofia, and now I THANK YOU for reading… And here are a few of my favorite affirmations of GRATITUDE, that may work for you:

  • I give thanks for all the HEALTH & WELLNESS I have.
  • I give thanks for all the FRIENDS I have.
  • I give thanks for the FAMILY I have.
  • I give thanks for the MINDSET & WORK ETHIC I have.
  • I give thanks for all the OPPORTUNITIES & SKILLS I have.
  • I give thanks for all the PROSPERITY & WEALTH I have in all aspects.

QUÉ COMER ANTES DE ENTRENAR EN LA MAÑANA

Me preocupa la cantidad de gente que está en uno de estos 2 extremos: o no desayuna nada antes de entrenar o se come todas las calorías en la mañana, por una teoría que escuchó. Por eso les brindo la información más científica, actualizada y SENSATA de lo que debemos y podemos comer antes de hacer ejercicio, actividad física o entrenamiento deportivo en la mañana.

De acuerdo con Nancy Clark, MS & RD, autora de “Sports Nutrition Guidebook” o “Guía de Nutrición Deportiva”, ya en su cuarta edición (2008, Human Kinetics), cuando comienzas un entrenamiento con un nivel bajo de glicemia o azúcar en la sangre, experimentas la fatiga antes que si te hubieses comido algo. De hecho, tendrás MEJOR RENDIMIENTO en el ejercicio o deporte SI COMES ANTES de hacer ejercicio.

Ahora bien,  el tipo de comida y la cantidad necesaria varía mucho de una persona a otra: desde una fruta, una bebida energética, una arepa o un sándwich. Dice Nancy,  que si comiste una merienda la noche anterior, no necesitas tanto el “empuje” que si cenaste a las 6 de la tarde;  así que todo depende.

“La mayoría de los individuos obtienen buenos resultados de 0,5 gramos de carbohidratos (2 calorías) por libra (1,1 g por kilo) de peso corporal una hora antes del ejercicio moderadamente fuerte, o 2 gramos (8 calorías) de carbohidratos por libra, 4,4 gramos por kilo de peso, 4 horas antes de hacer ejercicio.”  Ya sé qué están pensando… Si entreno a las 6:30 am, tendría que comer a las 2:30 am. Sí, hay quienes se levantan 2 horas antes del entrenamiento, desayunan y vuelven a acostarse. Hay otros- como yo- que comen algo, una fruta, una rebanada de pan integral o un yogurt de aproximadamente 100 calorías- media hora antes de hacer ejercicio… Y los que, desafortunadamente, no comen nada.

Liz Applegate, PhD, autora de “Encyclopedia of Sports & Fitness Nutrition” (2002 y autografiada para mi en 2008), recomienda comer de 2 a 4 horas antes de un entrenamiento, lo cual puede significar adaptar las comidas a las horas de entrenamiento: por ejemplo, almorzar a las 2 pm, si vas a entrenar a las 6 pm. En cuanto a las calorías, recomienda de 400 a 800 calorías en tu comida pre-ejercicio, una cantidad que te puede llenar, sin que te sientas pesada/o.

Ah, y algo fundamental cuando hablamos de Nutrición para el Deporte y la Actividad Física: el agua y a hidratación para evitar la fatiga prematura. Al menos 2 horas antes, “llenar el tanque” y así tener el tiempo para que los riñones hagan su trabajo y puedas entrenar bien hidratada/o, como recomienda Liz.

Si aplicamos estas recomendaciones de Liz Applegate y de Nancy Clark al entrenamiento de la mañana, podemos comer un bol de cereal con leche y cambur, equivalente a 400 calorías, o un sándwich de mantequilla de maní o almendras o, lo más rápido para tomar cuando uno está apurado, es un rico smoothie o licuado proteico, utilizando esta receta básica: 1 vaso de jugo de naranja, 1 vaso de yogurt descremado, ½ taza de fresas congeladas y 1 cambur previamente congelado. Colocas todo en tu licuadora y LISTO: para tu entrenamiento, y la próxima vez haces más, ¡porque le gusta a todo el mundo! NOTA:  Yo te recomiendo agregarle linaza molida, nueces, sábila, semillas y frutas enteras en lugar del jugo. También te sugiero VARIARLO mucho, de acuerdo a tu gusto y el de tu familia.

EN RESUMEN:  Si quieres tener ENERGÍA y un ÓPTIMO RENDIMIENTO, TIENES QUE TENER “algo en el estómago”, TIENES QUE HABER COMIDO ALGO NUTRITIVO- preferiblemente, 2 horas antes de hacer ejercicio. OLVÍDATE DEL AYUNO y OLVÍDATE de LA LOCURA de COMERTE TODO EN LA MAÑANA. Lo ideal es DISTRIBUIR LAS CALORÍAS y, por ende, la ENERGÍA.
